The collection consists of letters by Richard Hengist Horne (most of which were written from Australia) and letters to Horne from his wife, Catherine Clare St. George Foggo Horne, and from Margaret and Mary Gillies, among others. There are letters and documents in the collection concerning Horne's separation and divorce, and some of the letters discuss other authors, including Charles Dickens.
